PROF. DR. RÜDIGER KLINGELER is full professor of experimental physics at Heidelberg University, Germany. Affiliated tot he Kirchhoff Institute of Physics, he also the speaker and managing director of the HGSFP graduate school of the Excellence Initiative and one of the directors of the Heidelberg Centre for Advanced Materials (CAM). Before transferring to Heidelberg he worked at RWTH Aachen, the LNCMP magnetic field laboratory in Toulouse, France, and the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research in Dresden. During this time, Rüdiger Klingeler also headed the EU network CARBIO, which  investigates the use of multifunctional carbon nanostructures in cancer therapy, and was appointed head of a junior research group sponsored by the German Ministry of Education and Research that studies materials for lithium-ion batteries. Prof. Klingeler research focusses on experimental condensed matter physics, with particular emphasis on structural, electronic and magnetic properties of correlated electron systems, iron-based superconductors, molecular magnets and frustrated quantum magnets. Main experimental activities concern image-furnace crystal growth, high-frequency electron spin  resonance spectroscopy, and several thermodynamic methods like specific heat, thermal expansion and magnetization studies up to high magnetic field. In addition, he performs research on mechanisms and materials for lithium-ion batteries.
