Course Description:

Synthesis and characterization of inorganic compounds using advanced laboratory techniques. During this course, the students should improve and extend the laboratory skills in handling solids, liquids, and gases.  You will also carry out stoichiometric calculations and perform standard laboratory procedures like weighing, quantitative liquid transfer, reflux procedures, recrystallization, and the determination of melting point and/or decomposition temperature of inorganic materials.

 Experiments include the following types:

  • Synthesis of coordination compounds
  • Synthesis of nano-compound
  • Inorganic synthesis in nonaqueous system

At the end of this class the students should be familiar with synthetic techniques and characterization methods used in inorganic chemistry.

Prerequisites:

Basic Inorganic Chemistry ExperimentsOrganic Chemistry, Physics Chemistry
