Course Description:

This course is a chemical professional basic course. The course will mainly examine the following subjects: (i) major concepts and their applications of laws of thermodynamics, including the first, the second and the third; (ii) the basic principle of statistical thermodynamics; (iii) thermodynamic properties and colligative properties of solutions; (iv) methods of judging the directions and degrees of chemical reactions for chemical equilibrium system; (v) the phase rules, approaches to plotting and analyzing phase diagrams for phase equilibrium system; (vi) the principles of chemical kinetics, the rate theory, the equations of reaction rates and the determination of mechanisms of reactions; (vii) electrochemistry (properties of electrolyte solutions, primary cell and methods to measuring its electromotive force, electrolytic cell and the phenomenon of polarization); (viii) the brief introduction of interface and colloidal chemistry.
