College of chemistry was set up with previous department of chemistry, institute of elemento-organic chemistry , institute of polymer chemistry, institute of applied chemistry, institute of new energy materials and the center laboratory of Nankai university in April 1995.
Department of Chemistry of Nankai university was built in 1921. Prof. Qiu Zongyue and Prof Yang Shixian were the most important founder. Institute of Elemento-organic chemistry was built in 1965 by the assignment of Zhou Enlai who was the first premier of China. The other institutes were built in 1980's and 1990's.
Nowadays, our college is composed of 3 departments (chemistry, material chemistry and biochemistry), 4 institutes (elemento-organic chemistry, polymer chemistrt, applied chemistry and new energy materials), 2 research-centers (center laboratory and theoretical compute center), 3 MOE key majors (Organic chemistry, polymeric chemistry and physics, pesticide chemistry), 1 state key lab (the state key lab of elemento-organic chemistry), 1 MOE key lab (the MOE key lab of separative and enrichment functional hyper molecule chemistry), 1 state engineer center (the state engineer center of pesticide).
The college of chemistry has now 357 faculties and staffs, including 5 academicians of CAS( academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences) and CAE( academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), 84 professors and 81 associate professors, 117 of them with doctoral degree.
