王良从事复杂天然产物全合成,基于天然产物结构的药物化学和靶点探索研究。王良已指导学生完成了21个复杂天然产物的全合成,针对肾纤维化、胰腺癌、肝癌、结肠癌、急性肺损伤的治疗提供了多个以天然产物为模板的小分子实体。以防风草内酯(ovatodiolide)为模板,具体指导学生研发的1个抗肾纤维化候选药物现已完成规范化的临床前研究,批发达国家临床I期伦理,并已入组临床I期患者。同时,以天然产物为模板,基于构效关系,设计了多个活性分子探针,为新靶点的探索提供了分子工具,并合作发现共价抗癌新靶点。
王良以通讯作者(含共)、第一作者在Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.(6篇)、Nat. Comm.(1篇,最后通讯作者)、Chem. Sci.(1篇)、J. Med. Chem.(2篇)、Org. Lett.(3篇)、Chem. Comm.(1篇)等杂志发表论文20余篇。
